Element Six, a world leader in the supply of synthetic diamonds and other supermaterials for cutting, grinding, drilling, mining, polishing, optics, semi-conductors and sensors (and a member of the De Beers Group of Companies) will be supporting the 69th Annual Diamond Conference at the University of Warwick this week.

The conference is recognised as a leading annual forum on diamond technology, drawing experts from academia, science, industry and technology across the globe.

The event, which runs between 9-12 July, will see papers discussed by industry experts, with several speakers from Element Six providing insight on how synthetic diamond can be used in a wide array of practical manufacturing applications, including a focus on its contribution to 5G wireless technology.

The conference will also feature talks from international keynote speakers, including: Professor Dr. Mathias Herrmann from the Fraunhofer IKTS, Dresden; Dr Matthias Schreck, of the University of Augsburg; Professor Junich Isoya from the University of Tsukuba, Japan and; Professor Samuel Graham from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Siobhán Duffy, Innovation Director, said: “Element Six is proud to once again be a sponsor of the conference. We’re looking forward to hearing from a variety of distinguished speakers who are at the forefront of their respective fields and are coming together to provide the latest insights on the practical uses of diamond.”

“This is an opportunity for the leaders of science, technology, business and academia to come together to collaborate on the next generation of diamond capability and seek solutions to some of the world’s greatest manufacturing and scientific challenges. Students will also be attending the conference to gain valuable insights and exposure from the other speakers present.”

The conference will serve as an opportunity to inspire the next generation of diamond experts, with students from the Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Diamond Sciences and Technology having the chance to present their own research on diamond capability.

The first session of the conference on Monday 9 July will include presentations from students, with the winning presentations decided by a panel of expert judges. A number of students who have previously participated in the conference have since gone on to work for Element Six and De Beers at some point during their careers.

Element Six collaborates with eight universities, including the University of Warwick to deliver the CDT, bringing together leading academics and industrial groups to deliver research excellence and a unique, comprehensive training programme. The first cohort of students are due to graduate from the CDT later this year. During the course of its lifetime, Element Six will have provided in excess of ÂŁ500,000 towards funding the CDT.

Element Six, which is based at its state-of-the-art Global Innovation Centre on the world-renowned Harwell Campus, Oxfordshire, is supporting the conference alongside De Beers, the company which established the first annual event in 1949.
