VIRTUS to build 50-acre data centre campus in Bucks

Data centre owner-operator VIRTUS has announced plans for a new data centre campus to be built on a recently acquired 50-acre site in Saunderton, Buckinghamshire.

The international firm – part of the ST Telemedia Global Data Centres Group – is looking to meet growing demand for high-capacity AI-ready data infrastructure.

Its current design comprises four data centres capable of delivering IT capacity of 75MW.

With both planning permission and a National Grid contract for 120MVA now secured, work is due to begin in Q4 2024 with an aim to launch in Q2 2026.

CEO Neil Creswell said: “The acquisition of this 50-acre campus is a significant step in VIRTUS’s strategic growth plans.

“It demonstrates our ongoing commitment to provide advanced data centre facilities in the UK, while also expanding our operations in Europe.

“We’re dedicated to being at the forefront of supporting businesses on their digital transformation journeys, while ensuring that our data centres are built to the highest sustainability standards, aligning with our target to be carbon neutral by 2030.”

Accordingly, the campus will follow the rest of the company’s portfolio in featuring 100 per cent renewable energy.
