Region's top companies pick up Queen’s Awards

Companies from across the region are celebrating winning prestigious Queen’s Awards for Enterprise in Innovation, International Trade and Sustainability. Four companies won Queen’s Awards for Innovation, ten won International Trade Awards and just one secured a Queen's Award for Sustainability. All are listed below:

Queen's Awards for Innovation:

Advanced Insulation Ltd, Gloucester won for its unique, lightweight dry-fit insulation and passive fire protection system for offshore structures and Green Sheep Group Ltd of Stratford-upon-Avon for it three in one bedside crib that provides an innovative safe sleep solution for babies

Philip Watson, Topside Sales Director of Advanced Insulation, said: “Our lightweight MS400 system has enabled Oil & Gas Operators to save significant weight on their projects and gain huge monetary savings. It has saved over 100 tonnes of topside weight per project, a prominent design factors that has steered operators to use MS400 as their under-deck protection.

Metrasens Ltd, Malvern won its Innovation Award for its ferromagnetic detection systems for MRI safety and security applications. Metrasens CEO, Dr Simon Goodyear, said: “Our unique technology provides capabilities traditional security systems cannot, and is making a tangible difference in more than 40 countries worldwide.

“We are constantly looking at new and innovative ways to deploy our core technology, with an intrinsic focus on making people safer through cutting-edge screening methods.” The company received a Queen’s Award last year in the International Trade category.

 

Green Sheep Group Limited of Stratford upon Avon won for its three-in-one bedside crib that provides an innovative safe sleep solution for babies and Williams Advanced Engineering Limited of Grove near Didcot won for its battery that powers the cars in Formula E, the world’s first electric racing series.

Ten companies have won Queen’s Awards for International Trade. They are:

Adey Professional Heating Solutions, Cheltenham which designs and manufactures magnetic filters and chemicals to protect domestic and commercial heating systems.

“We’re delighted and incredibly proud to receive this great honour,” said Edward Davies, Adey’s Chief Operating Officer.

“Since Chris Adey invented magnetic filtration technology, Adey has revolutionised heating system protection and maintenance, investing in the development of the very best magnetic filters and water treatment chemicals.”

Prima Dental Manufacturing Ltd, Gloucester. Manufacturing precision dental instruments for healthcare and cosmetic markets and the intellectual property for manufacture.

This is the second Queen’s Award for Prima Dental who also won the accolade in 2014. Since then the company has continued to expand, building a permanent presence in key global markets including a subsidiary company in India and joint venture companies in Brazil and China. It has also applied its dentistry expertise and invested £1m in the launch of a new trading division earlier this year called Prima Digital, capitalising on the rapidly-growing digital dentistry segment.

Richard Muller, managing director at the 215-strong Gloucester manufacturer, said: “We are thrilled and honoured to be recognised with another Queen’s Award for Enterprise. This is an amazing accolade and is testament to our dedicated and skilled team who are all instrumental in our growth and success.”

Brose Ltd, Coventry, which designs & manufactures seating structures and window regulators for the automotive industry.

DCA Design International Ltd, Warwick, a product design consultancy across the medical and scientific, consumer, commercial and industrial and transport sectors.

EudracLtd of Chalgrove, Oxford which provides regulatory and pharmacovigilance consultancy services to the pharmaceutical industry.

George Pragnell Limited, Stratford-upon-Avon which sells rare natural gemstones handcrafted into jewellery, period jewellery and silver; luxury watches and clocks.

Intralink Limited, Abingdon helps companies enter new export markets and governments promote trade and attract foreign direct investment.

MIRA Technology Park, Nuneaton which provides a unique location for international automotive companies to establish a UK technical presence.

The First Class Pet Company Ltd, Worcester which manufactures Little BigPaw, a natural, premium pet food made in the UK with British ingredients.

TP3 Global Limited, Redditch manufactures and supplies thermal protection for temperature-sensitive freight.

Just one company from across the region secured a Queen’s Award for Sustainability.

Commercial Group, Cheltenham makes ground-breaking sustainability business-as-usual, catalysing supply chain transformation and proving-the-concept of progressive ideas.

Commercial Group director, Simone Hindmarch, says sustainability has been central to the company ethos for more than a decade: “This is such an exciting day for Commercial. Responsible business has always been important to us – it stems from our family values. But when I saw Al Gore’s Inconvenient Truth lecture in 2006 I realised we had a duty to manage our impact on the environment more proactively. We initially set out to reduce carbon emissions, but the activity gathered momentum and today we have a robust and effective strategy that addresses sustainability in the broadest sense. All our employees and many customers and suppliers have been actively involved in this journey – I’m so proud of them all. Queen’s Awards are awarded annually by Her Majesty The Queen on the advice of the Prime Minister. Winning is the ultimate success, but our work doesn’t stop here. We have lots more ideas in the pipeline to further improve sustainability at Commercial and beyond.”
