Dorset-based cyber security company C3IA has appointed Darren Reho as principal consultant as the business takes off.

Before entering the private sector, Reho spent 10 years in the Royal Air Force as a communications engineer specialising in information security and cryptography.

He joins a company that is just one of 12 in the country certified by the Government’s new National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).

With a decade working for government agencies, C3IA has now brought its vast experience to the commercial world, assisting companies of all sizes.

Reho will continue to work in his areas of expertise and will also provide training and security consultations.

He said: “C3IA is well-known among government agencies and in the military – and now it has come out of the shadows and into the commercial realm there is huge potential.

“Like me, many people here are ex-military and they are highly knowledgeable, but also pragmatic.

“The strength of the staff here is that they have all been there and done it for real.

“Our aim is to enable the client to act themselves by informing them of the various risks and then how to deal with them.”

C3IA director Matt Horan co-founded the Poole-based business a decade ago, since when cyber security has become increasingly important for business.

He said: “Our work is about identifying risks and putting a plan in place to mitigate those risks."

The Government is encouraging all firms to enhance their cyber security. Its own research showed that 70% of all attacks were in the form of viruses, spyware and malware.

It also revealed that two-thirds of all large businesses had been attacked within the last year.

Cyber security incidents cost UK firms £34.1 billion in the past year, according to a survey by business Internet service provider Beaming.

C3IA has a staff of 84.
