Specialist IT, data privacy and cybersecurity law firm Clayden Law has appointed experienced technology company general counsel Clive Bramley to join its team based in Oxford.

Bramley has joined Clayden Law having spent 17 years as in-house counsel at technology companies including RBSWorldPay, Voice Commerce Group and Ixaris Systems.

During his eight years with RBS, Bramley was closely involved in the putative refinancing and IPO of WorldPay, WorldPay’s subsequent purchase by RBS, the purchase of Bibit BV from its venture capital owners, the amalgamation of the businesses of WorldPay, Bibit BV and Streamline/NatWest, the forging of banking partnerships in Singapore, Hong Kong, the US, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and France, and the day to day legal issues surrounding the whole of the acquiring and payment service provider business. The role expanded to looking after the legal affairs of the whole of RBSWorldPay and its offices (and subsidiaries) in the US, Singapore, Holland and Germany.

Bramley has also held general counsel roles at internet start-up Voice Commerce Group (the first non-bank Visa and MasterCard licensed issuer and acquirer, one of the first authorised payment institutions under the Payment Service Regulations as well as an authorised electronic money issuer) and Ixaris Systems (a technology company that uses the software it produces to both run its own prepaid card programmes and to offer “perfect fit payments” to financial institutions).

Piers Clayden, director of Clayden Law, said: “Clive started his career as a solicitor in major UK law firms, before gaining more than 17 years’ experience in a number of innovative technology companies. He offers clients valuable insight as well as specialist expertise - having sat on ‘both sides of the table’. We’re pleased to welcome him to our rapidly growing team.”
