Katrick Technologies partners with Coventry’s MTC to develop new wind panels

Coventry’s Manufacturing and Technology Centre (MTC) will assist Katrick Technologies in its development of new ‘wind panels’ to be installed on homes for low-level wind energy generation.

Over the course of their partnership, Katrick plans to work with the MTC to create a prototype for its green technology. As a Tier 1 member at the centre, it will then be able to showcase this design to a network of original equipment manufacturers and energy investment companies.

Although wind power is by no means a new concept, Katrick’s wind panels use multi-layered aerofoils to maximise the capture of kinetic energy while addressing some of the limitations posed by traditional turbines.

The company estimates that, if installed along a kilometre stretch of road, its panels would generate enough electricity to power 760 homes. This is an exciting prospect as the country increasingly looks towards renewable solutions on the path to Net Zero emissions.

Vijay Madlani, CEO of Katrick Technologies, said: “Discovering green energy alternatives should be the at the top of the UK’s agenda. Having alternative power sources will help keep business costs lower and reduce strain on the grid, while helping decrease reliance on fossil fuels.

“Ultimately, it’s not a case of wanting more options, but needing them. Our work with the MTC is already paving the way for green energy innovation, which will be taken a step further with the development of our prototype.”

The MTC belongs to a group of High Value Manufacturing Catapult centres supported by Innovate UK, and aims to bridge the gap between university research and manufacturing innovation.

Chris Brown, Senior Business Development Manager at MTC, added: “We are proud to be working with Katrick on this important innovation for wind generation in the UK.

“Enabling solutions that reduce carbon and support the UK’s Net Zero ambitions is at the heart of everything we do at MTC. Through this exciting partnership we can really make a difference together.”
