Inflowmatix - Leaders in water resource technology

Led by Dr. Mike Williams, (CEO), with Robin Bell (COO), Inflowmatix has been on a journey from start-up to mainstream market disruptor for burst/leakage analytics and network control as demonstrated by impressive financial growth and wider driven collaborations with global brands such as SUEZ, Cla-Val and Black & Veatch. This has enabled and accelerated brand recognition globally and Inflowmatix has a major initiative underway to build the brand even further.

Building and sharing their prior experience throughout the team, both Williams and Bell have been instrumental in directing, leading and architecting the game changing InflowSys™/arboricity™ secure cloud-based analytics platforms. This effort has covered all stages from recruitment, operations, conceptual design, product development and then integration and support through to manufacturing and supply chain logistics. Throughout this process various certifications have been required and achieved such as ISO9001/14001, Information Commissioner’s Office (Data security), along with the EU regulatory certifications for communications and water safety.

From the onset, the technical teams have been directed to operate as a cloud-based organisation using agile methodologies for product and service development using online collaborative tools such as Zube (sprint/kanban) and Miro (real-time whiteboards). This includes frequent, periodic ‘ceremonies’ including show and tells and retrospectives which drive development activity and ensure consistency and ongoing process improvement.

As an agile and remote team, Inflowmatix has from its creation used online tools including Slack and the extensive G-Suite provided by Google to collaborate and enable the workforce to deliver. These leadership decisions have enabled Inflowmatix to execute a swift and seamless business continuity plan and move to all employees working from home when Covid-19 and the subsequent lockdown happened.

With a fleet of over 3,000 InflowSys™ deployments built up with key customers over the past three years, each day around 33 billion data samples are recorded and processed at the edge of the network resulting in 1.5b subsetted data points delivered to the cloud platform.

Inflowmatix has been able to maintain financial growth as a consequence of it’s agile approaches supporting solution delivery and has tripled order intake for the past two years.

The board and senior leadership team have successfully employed a unique and diverse recruitment philosophy to maintain the pedigree of the organisation as a thought leader for computational hydraulic modelling and analytics. At least 25% of its workforce have a relevant PhD from world-renowned universities such as Imperial College, Queen Mary College, Cambridge University alongside skills spanning data science, numerical analysis, applied mathematics alongside mechanical, electronic and hydraulics engineering. This has enabled the intellectual horsepower from a small focused team (24 people) to proactively collaborate with its customers and drive a solutions approach with clear systems thinking.

The lighter side of technical team leadership is galvanising the team and making Inflowmatix an exciting and fun place to work where everyone contributes. To this end Williams and Bell support Inflowmatix corporate social responsibility events which have included a sponsored beach clean, sponsored bike rides and other opportunities to get together and celebrate as a team.
