Four steps to becoming the Tech SME of the Year

With so many incredible tech companies contributing to the Thames Valley’s thriving tech sector, awards programs can often overlook the vitally important work of SMEs.

While large corporations and international organisations are highlighted for the attention they bring to the region, the sector is full of smaller, growing companies that are largely responsible for driving innovation and inspiring diversity. We’re looking to take this opportunity to shine the spotlight on the Tech SME of the Year at the Thames Valley Tech & Innovation Awards 2024

Sponsored by James Cowper Kreston, this hotly contested category can be entered by any company with an annual turnover up to £15 million that has been trading for a minimum of two years.

But with the region’s tech sector being as vibrant and expansive as it is, what can you do to have the best chance of taking home the trophy?

Here are four steps you can take towards becoming the Tech SME of the Year:

Show enterprise in your use of technology

When it comes to choosing the Tech SME of the Year, our independent judges will absolutely be looking for a winner whose name is synonymous with innovation, effective strategy and potential for continued growth. Being able to demonstrate how you’ve used technology to better your business will be key to being named the winner of this award.

Forge new paths

When a sector becomes as big as the Thames Valley’s tech sector has, it naturally becomes saturated with products and services that are painfully similar to one another. The winner of this coveted award will be one who is forging their own path; our independent judges are looking for an industry leader who isn’t afraid to take risks and venture into new areas.

Stand out from the crowd

We see a lot of nominations from companies who don’t push their entries as much as they could. Standing out from the crowd in this context hinges entirely on the quality of your nomination. Providing clear evidence of your excellent work and resources such as testimonials from satisfied clients can make all the difference.
