Farnborough: QinetiQ wind tunnel to be used for Boeing jet testing
Aircraft giant Boeing has signed a five-year deal to extend its use of QinetiQ's wind tunnel located on the Cody Technology Park in Farnborough, Hampshire, and could also use it to develop its 777X plane.
The tunnel, one of only three of its kind in the world, was opened in 1978 and has been used to test fighter jets, F1 cars and a spaceship in winds of up to 200mph.
David Fletcher, assistant director for economic development at Hampshire County Council, said: "QinetiQ’s test facilities are a huge asset for Hampshire as they are some of the world's most advanced. These include the low speed wind tunnel in Farnborough as well as an ocean basin at Gosport which is the largest in Europe and used to test scale models of new British aircraft carriers."
