E-scooters are coming to Gloucestershire, courtesy of Moovit and Zwings
The e-scooter rental craze is heading to Gloucester and Cheltenham, courtesy of urban mobility app Moovit and micro-mobility operator Zwings.
Intel-owned Moovit provides its users with transport alternatives to private car use, with bus and train time tables and other information.
The app now offers reliable, accurate and up-to-date information on the availability of e-scooters from leading British micro-mobility operator Zwings.
Zwings' distinctive blue e-scooters can be found in Newcastle-Under-Lyme, Yeovil, Chard, and Crewkerne as well as Gloucester and Cheltenham.
Although the law does not allowed privately-owned e-scooters to be used in public places, rental-scooters can be used legally provided the rider is aged 16 or over, holds a provisional or motorcycle licence, rides only on the road or cycle path, as doesn't operate the vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Increasingly e-scooters are seen as an eco-friendly was to navigate cities. They can be picked up and dropped off at designated points, and unlocked and paid for through an app.
According to recent data published by Zwings, 94 percent of riders were in favour of Zwings rental e-scooters being made a longer-term part of transport infrastructure.
Ninety-two percent of respondents considered Zwings' e-scooters an effective substitute for short car journeys.
And 40 percent of respondents had used the e-scooters specifically for commuting.
Luke Redfern, Moovit’s UK partnerships manager, said: “Providing Moovit users with a full suite of travel choices is essential to ensuring that public and shared transport is more attractive than using a private car.
"It’s great to see organisations such as Zwings pioneering change to our mobility system and bringing e-scooters to UK towns and cities.
"This partnership means users have reliable, accurate and up-to-date information on the availability of Zwings vehicles at all times.”
CEO of Zwings, Joe Lewin, said: “It is fantastic to have partnered with Moovit to provide wider, quicker access to a range of transport solutions at the tap of a button.
"From short trips across town via e-scooter to longer distance bus journeys we encourage our community to embrace the future of travel.”
