DK Engineering partners with Gloucestershire's McMurtry Automotive
McMurtry Automotive has appointed DK Engineering to act as its exclusive agent in the UK.
McMurtry Automotive was founded by Sir David McMurtry, founder and chairman of the global manufacturing company Renishaw.
Headquartered in Gloucestershire, McMurtry started small in just 2016. Thomas Yates, the managing director, was headhunted from Formula One. The brief for a powerful concept car was drawn up, with a consistent focus on compact.
Operating at the leading edge of technology, McMurtry is working to develop the next generation of automotive innovation. The team wants to raise the bar for electric vehicles, inventing and proving new technologies to offer cars with unrivalled performance in dynamics, speed and range.
The business shot to international notoriety earlier this summer at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, when its Spéirling prototype stormed the Hillclimb leaderboard. The team set a blistering time of 39.08s, comprehensively beating the previous official and unofficial records in the process.
With an extensive automotive engineering background and sales of some of the most exclusive vehicles throughout its 45-year history, DK is well-placed to support the activities of McMurtry Automotive.
James Cottingham from DK Engineering explained: “At our core, DK is an engineering company and it is amazing to see what McMurtry are achieving. I love what the team is doing, using electricity, but taking a different approach, rather than simply following the crowd. There is a huge respect for the work they have already carried out and the performance being achieved with the Spéirling, approaching that of Formula 1 around circuits, using electricity.
“We feel it will be a great fit with our clientbase – for those who have an electric car scratch to itch, but who haven’t been intrigued or interested in anything offered previously. The team is taking the technology to the next level and we are proud to be a part of this exciting journey with the future projects, as the exclusive agent for the UK, and to support McMurtry as a revolutionary British business.
“It also feels like a natural fit, working with McMurtry Automotive, given their success at Goodwood. DK has managed to achieve some success on the Hillclimb and at the circuit over the years, so we have a huge amount of respect for the work and effort that went into achieving such an outstanding result to break the record.”
Thomas Yates, Managing Director at McMurtry Automotive added: “Now we have proven that our downforce on demand technology works and have a world beating track car, this is the next logical step, launching the Spéirling onto the market. We’re looking forward to working with James and his team and know they can bring invaluable experience to the table.”
