As sales of electric cars continue to grow, the number of publicly accessible chargers is also on the rise. One of the UK’s fastest-growing electric car charging networks, InstaVolt, has reported a record-breaking month for new installations. It has installed 72 rapid EV (electric vehicle) chargers during the month of March.

Once the local DNOs complete the energisation works at each location in the coming weeks, the InstaVolt network will comprise over 310 rapid charging stations nationwide.

It comes as the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show the registration of pure electric vehicles doubled in February this year compared to 2018.

Tim Payne, CEO of Basingstoke-based InstaVolt, said: “March has been an incredibly busy time for us, as we continue to build our network and 72 chargers in one month represents a new company record. It quite possibly represents the highest number of rapid chargers install by an operator in a single month, within the UK.”

The chargers have been installed at driver-friendly locations including petrol stations, roadside diners, Starbucks drive thru branches, supermarkets and at retail parks. Installations in March reach from Cumbria in the North West to Dorset in the South.

Like all of InstaVolt’s chargers, those installed in March will be available to use on a pay-as-you-go basis with no subscription, RFID card or membership needed. Drivers simply tap their contactless credit or debit card to pay.

The hassle-free approach has recently seen the firm top the user satisfaction rankings for electric car charging networks in the UK that can be used by multiple models of electric vehicle.
