Southampton’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency releases guide to promote safety at sea
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) has published its ‘Leading for Safety’ guide to help boost safety on vessels through effective leadership.
Developed through research in the maritime and other hazardous industries, it provides leaders with cutting edge guidance on creating or enhancing a culture of safety using human element principles like self-awareness.
CEO Virginia McVea said: “The safety of those at sea is our top priority at MCA and we know well how hard leaders in the sector work day and night to protect the public and their teams.
“This guidance acknowledges the real pressures seafarers face and provides practical guidance on how everyone can be led effectively to take responsibility for safety.”
Headquartered in Southampton, the MCA produces legislation and guidance on maritime matters, as well as providing certification to seafarers.
