Esteemed Reading businessman Sir John Madejski has become a patron of business-led charity Connect Reading, which creates a local network between businesses, charities and public sector organisations in the area.
The charity recently reached a milestone of over £1.5 million support for the local community, having helped thousands of local people and hundreds of charities, community groups and schools through its volunteering and donation projects.
Knighted in 2009, Madejski's reputation is iconic in Reading as a result of his philanthropic investments in academia, education and the arts.
Of the patronage, he said: “I feel it is very important for the people of Reading both in business and the local community to be actively working together to build a better, stronger community. Connect Reading is the vehicle for change; for developing these relationships and creating value for the Reading community and I am delighted to be a patron for their cause.”
