ACCA, the association of chartered certified accountants, has named the latest Vice President as Melanie Proffitt.

Melanie is the Chief Financial Officer of the 500-acre Farncombe Estate in the north Cotswolds, which is home to three award-winning hotels - The Fish, Foxhill Manor, and Dormy House Hotel and Spa.

She has been with Farncombe Estate for over 6 years, and has served on the ACCA council for 9 years prior to her nomination to vice president.

Successful twist in the tale for craft ale brewery

The Vice President sits within the senior officer team of ACCA, representing more than 750,000 members and students all across the world.

As CFO of Farncombe Estate, Melanie is used to juggling multiple stakeholder demands while ensuring robust fiscal decisions are taken that lead the business in a positive direction.

Educated at Loughborough College and the University of Warwick - Warwick Business School, Melanie’s experience of financial management spans multiple industries and demonstrates her commitment to excellence in each.

Her previous roles include working within automotive, engineering, healthcare, and print and packaging businesses. With such a breadth of industry experiences and ways of working under her belt, Melanie is looking forward to continuing to use her knowledge and experience in support of ACCA and its members.

Melanie said: “Having been a council member for more than nine years, it’s a privilege to be elected to serve as Vice President.

"I hope to work closely with my fellow ACCA members in supporting them and their clients and businesses in which they work to deliver the best services possible. My experience will allow me to deliver expertise and strategic insight on many areas of business to best support my colleagues.”


Peter Davison is deputy editor of The Business Magazine. He has spent his life in journalism – doing work experience in newsrooms in and around Bristol while still at school, and landing his first job on a local newspaper aged 19. By 28 he was the youngest newspaper editor in the country.

An early advocate of online news, he spent the first years of the 2000s telling his bosses that the internet posed both the biggest opportunity and greatest threat to the newspaper industry and the art of journalism. He was right on both counts.

Since 2006 he has enjoyed a career as a freelance journalist. He lives in rural Wiltshire with one wife, two children, and three cats.
