Plans to convert a vacant office block in Swindon town centre into new homes are set to move ahead following its sale by property company Telereal Trillium.

North Star House, which until July 2020 was occupied by BT and the British Computer Society (which has now moved to Newbridge Square in the town) has been sold to Shaviram Group, a property development and investment company based in London. The sale price has not been disclosed.

The North Star House site comprises a 1980s, 157,700 sq ft office block and substantial car parking of approximately 500 spaces. Telereal Trillium secured PDR consent for office to residential conversion to provide 272 new homes including 158 studio flats, with 78 one-bedroom and 36 two-bedroom apartments.

Telereal Trillium’s plans to regenerate the site into a modern residential development took shape after North Star House became significantly under-occupied by BT, which ultimately decided to relocate all its remaining staff to its other offices in the region.

Occupying a central location in the town and close to Swindon train station’s excellent links to London and other rail network connections, the redevelopment of the site has excellent potential to create a new community in this part of the town.

Jonny Pitts, Planning & Disposals Director at Telereal Trillium said: “Our agreement with Shaviram Group will mean that no time has been lost in regenerating this important town centre site following BT’s departure in July 2020. Shaviram Group is an experienced developer and well equipped to deliver a high-quality transformation of North Star House and the surrounding site.”

Telereal Trillium were advised by Savills on the sale.
