Spinlock takes new HQ in historic Isle of Wight police station

Marine equipment manufacturers Spinlock have moved into the 125-year-old Cowes Town Police Station following an 18-month renovation and extension of the formerly derelict building.

The new premises offer modern and open office space to encourage collaboration, with an additional meeting and networking area on the top floor and a terrace overlooking the Solent.

Interior features such as the old police cell doors have also been incorporated into the redesign, while the blue tone of the original ‘Police’ sign has been repurposed for the Spinlock logo.

It comes following a busy year for Spinlock, which saw the firm earning B-Corp certification and becoming one of the first recipients of King’s Awards for Enterprise with its innovative products.

Chief Executive Chris Hill said: “Moving into our new larger head office is a milestone event and a real investment in Spinlock’s future.

“The expansion of our design, marketing and sales facility enables us to continue operating and greeting clients in Cowes.

“The majority of our customers are spread over 66 countries and they truly value this connection and the opportunity to visit us at this iconic yachting venue.

“Spinlock has long enjoyed working with Island and mainland suppliers to support its manufacturing centre on the outskirts of Cowes, which has also been expanded.

“We’re very proud of our achievements in this ‘Red Letter’ year and look forward to writing new chapters in Spinlock’s success story.”

It was a local project from start to finish, from developing a vision with the Island’s own Modh Design Architects to making it a reality with Dave Bunday & Sons, based just down the road.

Caroline Senior, Operations Director at Spinlock, added: “We’re delighted to be operating from our wonderful new HQ and welcoming our global clients.

“It’s fantastic to see the redevelopment come to fruition, necessitated by our need for more space while wanting to maintain our links in this iconic Cowes location.

“We started looking for bigger premises before Covid and found the solution right on our doorstep.

“The pandemic delayed the large-scale building work, but it finally got underway with an excellent construction team who brought the property back to life.

“Together this group worked with us to deliver a remarkable new head office for Spinlock, which enables it to continue with Cowes very much as its home and preserves a local landmark for the community.”
