Midas Construction, one of the UK's largest independent construction companies has become a Business South champion; joining a dedicated network of businesses committed to working collaboratively for the economic progression of the central south region.

Southampton Crossings

Midas Construction, part of the Midas Group, has been delivering award-winning developments throughout the south, South West, midlands and Wales for over 45 years across a wide range of sectors including; education, residential, commercial and retail.

The company has an impressive portfolio of high-quality projects in the central south region including Southampton Crossings, an 11-storey, 527-bedroom purpose-built student accommodation residence overlooking Watts Park in the city centre.

Southampton Crossings delivered a bespoke employment and skills plan enabling work placements, apprenticeships, employment for local people and construction qualifications. A social return on investment report by Southampton City Council credited the project with delivering £12 million of value to the city’s economy.

Midas Construction also completed the £4.1m transformation of the Ark Charter Academy secondary school in Portsmouth, enabling an increase in pupil capacity. The project was delivered safely, on time and to budget during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In joining Business South, Midas further strengthens an established network of Business champions working collectively for the economic benefit of the central south region.

Through its champions platform, Business South unifies business leaders and stakeholders to help improve economic prosperity and facilitates sector development through its dedicated action groups. Its Regenerate South action group focuses on the opportunities, challenges and delivery of promoting the central south as an attractive region for investment and the necessary infrastructure. Regenerate South supports and promotes major development schemes and potential sites across the central-south, focusing on opportunities and challenges to promote the central south as an attractive region for investment.

Ian Dewhurst, business development director at Midas Construction, part of the Midas Group, said: "Building relationships is as important to the Midas ethos as our contribution to the built environment, our commitment to delivering projects conscientiously and leaving a positive and lasting impact for the communities in which we work.

"These values are aligned with the aspirations of Business South. As a new champion, we particularly look forward to supporting Business South’s work with regeneration, localism and the opportunity to support the development of employment and skills across our workforce.”

Leigh-Sara Timberlake, group chief executive of Business South said: “The influence and project delivery capacity of Business South is made possible due to the merits and commitment of champions like Midas Group.

"Midas brings invaluable industry knowledge, particularly for our Regenerate South action group which is led by stakeholder experts to support and promote sustainable and responsible development schemes and potential investment sites across the central south.”
