Reading Council approves hotel and shops plans
Plans to redevelop part of Reading’s town centre have been given the go-ahead by the council’s planning committee.
An application by Thackery Estates to build a new 163-bed hotel plus 104 apart-hotel rooms, complete with a courtyard and shopping area, were praised by planners.
The redevelopment scheme will take place on the corner of Queen Victoria Street and Friar Street.
The new Jurys Inn brand hotel will bring back into use The Bugle, a pub which closed in October 2021.
The council gave the pub protected status in July, and Thackeray Estates incorporated it into the hotel building.
Thackery Estates said: "The scheme is a catalyst for the regeneration of Friar Street, and will create vibrancy, employment opportunities and in turn, support the local and regional economy."
