Peel Logistics and Rockspring have signed the Universal Electric Company of Pittsburgh for a 56,000 sq ft warehouse at the Island Road development to the south of Reading.

UEC established its first UK operation 18 months ago and is an expanding global manufacturer of power distribution systems catering for the data centre, retail, health care, higher education and industrial markets across the US and Europe.

The company instructed RARE in May to find a new facility.

RARE's Jonathan Mannings said: “Fate played a big part in this acquisition. We set out looking for 35,000 sq ft but over the course of the search, our client secured several major new contracts that resulted in their business growing significantly and hence their requirement growing. Accordingly, the 56,000 sq ft unit at Island Road will accommodate their expanding business and will give them several years of expansion capacity."

UEC took a new 15-year lease at an undisclosed rent.

Haslams and GVA acted on behalf of Peel Logistics and Rockspring. RARE represented the tenant.
