Proposal submitted for Cheltenham's Lansdown Industrial Estate regeneration

Proposals to regenerate part of a Cheltenham's Lansdown Industrial Estate have been submitted to Cheltenham Borough Council.

Adapt Real Estate is proposing to build on the northern half of Lansdown Industrial Estate, opposite Cheltenham Spa railway station. Its submission follows consultations with local residents and businesses held last year.

The plans include  215 new homes and apartments, a mix of market and affordable.

The southern part of Lansdown Industrial Estate has seen a range of businesses open, including a brewery and tap room, coffee roastery, and electric car workshop & showroom. But many of the old buildings in the northern part are derelict, at the end of their economic life or currently unoccupied.

If approved, work would not be expected to start on site before early 2023.

James Taylor, Founding Director, Adapt Real Estate, said: “We’re pleased to have submitted our vision to bring the northern part of the Lansdown Estate back to life.

“We listened carefully to the constructive comments we received from people living and working locally, and we’d like to thank everyone again for helping to inform and shape our final proposals.”

Lansdown Industrial Estate is one of four sites identified by Cheltenham Borough Council in the recently adopted Cheltenham Plan as suitable for mixed-use (commercial and residential) development. The total estate is an estimated 13.3 acres, and the northern section proposed for regeneration is approximately 6.9 acres.

A separate application has also been made to create five homes and two new employment units in the southern section of Lansdown Industrial Estate that also faces onto nearby Roman Road.
