Plans submitted for 500 homes next to London Oxford Airport

Woodstock-based Blenheim Estate Homes hope to build 500 residential properties next to London Oxford Airport.

The development would provide a broad range of accommodation types, with more than half being either shared ownership or 'affordable housing', as defined by the government, offered at a 40% discount on market rates..

The site would also include green corridors providing pedestrian and cycling access to the town centre.

A community park, featuring play areas and allotments, would be the focal point of the development, providing a social hub. This would be complimented by an enhanced tree belt featuring native shrubbery.

A Blenheim Estate Homes spokesperson said: “New homes are required in Oxfordshire to respond to the housing crisis. This development would bring 205 new affordable homes to the area.

“These homes recognise the varied needs of individuals in terms of size, type, and affordability. They must also respond to the climate crisis and be built to help reduce energy demands and the use of natural resources, whilst also promoting biodiversity and sustainable modes of transport.”

Primary access to the development is planned to be from upper Campsfield Road, with a roundabout proposed.

Additionally, the site would connect into the vehicular, pedestrian and cycle routes within the neighbouring Park View Scheme, which is under construction.

A park and Ride site providing roughly 1,100 parking spaces is also planned for London Oxford Airport, which, when built, will be readily accessible to the new community on foot and by cycling.

The spokesperson continued: “There is no specific concern with regard to the site’s location and its proximity to the airport. Extensive noise assessments have been carried out alongside discussion with the airport.

“The nature and layout of the airport is such that the impact on development will be very minimal if any.”

If approved, work will commence in Spring 2024 with the first occupation following by the end of 2024. The developers estimate the project would be complete by 2034.
