Fareham-based Amiri Construction has started on a new £4 million 1,550 sq m sport centre for St Andrew’s School in Pangbourne, near Reading, the former school of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge. It has been designed by Bournemouth-based Mancon Project Management, which specialises in buildings for the education sector.

The building will include a sports hall large enough for a full-size tennis court, netball court, four badminton courts or five-a-side football pitch, and it will have retractable cricket nets. There will be a 25m indoor pool and the full-height foyer entrance will boast a climbing wall. The second floor will have a smaller hall for dance and ballet classes and for a range of other activities.

Lee Wilkinson, contracts manager for Amiri construction which has completed over 40 multi-million pound projects within the past 12 years for the education sector, said: “During the construction we will offer groups of pupils the opportunity to take a close look at the progress being made and have question and answer sessions with our site team.”

St Andrew’s School, founded in 1934, is set in 54 acres of beautiful grounds with playing fields and woodland. It has 285 pupils, ranging from 3 to 13 years old.
