The Shaven Crown in Shipton-under-Wychwood, Oxfordshire, has been bought by the property investment company Safeland PLC's Managing Director Larry Lipman following a deal brokered by global real estate advisor Colliers International.
Believed to have been licensed as long ago as 1384, the Shaven Crown was placed on the market following an extensive refurbishment.
Originally constructed as a hospice for the monks at nearby Bruern Abbey, the aptly named hotel/inn retains many of its original medieval features, including the stunning Great Hall, which now serves as a lounge attracting good trade from locals, business and tourists.
Peter Brunt, a hotels director with global real estate advisor Colliers International, said the Shaven Crown attracted visitors all year round and was placed on the market at £1.1 million.
“The inn has been bought by Larry Lipman, one of the main driving forces behind the Safestay business which runs 13 hostels in seven countries and claims to deliver one million rooms per night across the globe.”
Situated at Shipton-under-Wychwood between Chipping Norton and Burford, the Grade II* listed building has an entrance porch complete with Tudor door, cobbled floors and heavy timber doors opening in to the magnificent Great Hall, which has many period features including mullion windows, heavy beamed ceiling and impressive staircase to the seven comfortable letting rooms.
In addition, there is a private, three-bedroom accommodation in a wing at the back of the hotel.
