Improvements are no Shambles for Worcester

Worcester city centre's programme of improvement works for The Shambles in Worcester has taken another step forward with the completion of the works on Church Street. Throughout July, the focus of the works was on the large section of paving running from High Street to St. Swithun’s Church. This involved removing the existing block paving and laying new natural stone paving slabs.

Work has also taken place to install a new drainage channel to collect and divert rainwater into the existing drainage system.

Councillor Ken Pollock, Worcestershire County Council's Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Economy and Infrastructure, said: "Work on The Shambles is progressing well, and the final picture really is beginning to take shape.

“The new natural stone on Church Street looks great and provides a real feature for the area.

"Once the work is complete, the area will be significantly improved, providing another example of the investments being made to improve the city and town centres across Worcestershire."

Works now switch to the completion of the new footway and kerbing around the junction of Trinity Street and St Swithin’s Street. To allow this work to take place a full road closure will be in place on Trinity Street from Monday 19 August for one week.

Further road closures are scheduled over the coming months, to allow for completion of the works.
