Henley-on-Thames: Retirement Villages Group plans new community for Lower Shiplake
The Retirement Villages Group (RVG) has submitted plans to South Oxfordshire District Council to build a new retirement community at Lower Shiplake, Henley-on-Thames. The Group hopes to develop 66 new residential units and 40 care beds across a 6.5 acre site, and the village will also include a club house with a bar, a restaurant, shop, gym, library, meeting rooms and admin and domiciliary-care offices.
The privately-owned company has 14 high-end villages across the UK. Earlier this month it announced it was embarking on its largest development programme in its 35-year history, with a pipeline of seven new locations in the south east that will be delivered over the next five years.
The GDV (gross development value) of the new pipeline is in excess of £200 million and will create 500 new residential units and 160 care beds.
Lower Shiplake is among the sites spearheading this expansive programme of new development, and should planning consent be granted, work could start on-site in spring 2018, with the village opening to its first residents before the end of 2019.
William Crawford, group development director, said: “While our villages retain unique characteristics, all our sites offer high-quality and generous accommodation with communal facilities, an open aspect, and good connection to local amenities.”
