De Vere Horsley Estate has finished the first phase of a £1.2 million refurbishment to Horsley Place, a contemporary hotel on the estate.

The work has so far entailed the complete refurbishment of 10 new academy double rooms and five new academy superior double rooms, along with the creation of five Horsley Place suites.

Full plans involve 51 bedrooms, with the remaining rooms due for completion by June 2024.

The new rooms offer a relaxed and contemporary design. The bedrooms are complete with walk-in showers, classic Roberts radios and smart TVs, with some also featuring private terraces.

Michael Micallef, general manager at De Vere Horsley Estate, said: “We’re thrilled with the results of the refurbishment to the bedrooms so far and we’re excited to be rolling out the next phase of works ahead of summer.

“I’m very much looking forward to welcoming guests to the hotel to enjoy the new upgraded rooms and amenities.”

Horsley Place stands alongside 19th century mansion house Horsley Towers, designed by Sir Charles Barrey – the man behind the Houses of Parliament and Highclere Castle.

Once the marital home of Ada Lovelace, the property was then bought by Sir Thomas Sopwith, the inventor of the Sopwith Camel aeroplane.

The house features 28 bedrooms, two large event spaces, three meeting rooms and acres of grounds, which can be hired out exclusively for events.
