The recent Vail Williams annual Thought Leadership breakfast seminar at the stunning Ordnance Survey building in Eastleigh focused on “The Future”. It attracted 120 people from the property industry and the wider business community.

Tim Walker from Taylor Made Computer Solutions, in a consideration of the technology perspective, talked about 3D printing for organs, wearable communications, social media and a host of other technological advances. He touched on the importance of recognising health and well-being in the work place,  and of using technology to create a work/life balance and blur the boundaries between work and home. He predicted that 89% of organisations would offer mobile workstyles by 2020.

Mike Gawthorne, from recruitment-specialist Secocor Group, talked about the changing face of what drives today’s recruits, aside from the main salary, and stressed the increasing importance of company vision, corporate values, and a work-life blend.

Keith House, head of Eastleigh Borough Council, painted a picture of the office building of the future using his own high-tech, environmentally-advanced, refurbished council offices as an example. His stress was on accessibility to customers, new ways of working and the opportunity to lead town centre regeneration with a modern ‘green’ building.

Philip Holmes from Vail Williams’ Southampton office said the company hoped to host a similar event next year.
