Beard Construction has earned the prestigious President’s Award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) after receiving 10 consecutive gold awards for health and safety.

This marks the latest in a series of successes for Beard, which recently achieved gold accreditation for staff health and wellbeing from Investors in People.

The family-owned firm, which has offices in Bristol, Swindon, and Oxford, was recognised for its continued dedication to ensuring that staff and stakeholders stay safe at work. The RoSPA look favourably on strong overarching health and safety management, with good leadership and workforce involvement.

While the President’s Award typically recognises an individual division or region, Beard went one step further to take home the honour for the whole company.

Julia Small, Achievements Director at RoSPA, said: “Accidents at work and work-related ill health don’t just have huge financial implications or cause major disruption – they significantly impact an individual’s quality of life. That’s why good safety performance deserves to be recognised and rewarded.

“We are thrilled that Beard has won a RoSPA Award and would like to congratulate them on showing an unwavering commitment to keeping their employees and customers safe from accidental harm and injury.”

Established in 1892, Beard has grown to employ more than 300 people across its four regional offices. The firm engages in a wide range of construction projects in a variety of sectors, including new build, restoration, and refurbishment works.

Beard Director Mike Hedges said: “Health and safety is a fundamental priority for all organisations, especially those in the construction sector. As such, the safety of all those that work for us or interact with us is paramount at Beard.

“While a reduction in slips, trips, and falls and our overall accident rate in 2022 is more than enough reward for us, we’re delighted to receive the President’s Award from RoSPA. It’s fantastic recognition for our entire team, who have worked so hard.”
