A Bellway development which will become part of the regeneration of former garrison land in Aldershot has been named one of the best projects of its kind in the UK.

Maida, a development of 228 new homes which is being built on land off Queens Avenue, won a Bronze Award in the Best Regeneration Scheme category at the 2017 Whathouse? Awards.

Maida will become part of a new community called Wellesley which is being built on land which was part of Aldershot’s iconic former military barracks. As well as new homes, the wider community will feature woodland, parks and nature trails, shops and play areas, two new primary schools, a neighbourhood centre, sports facilities and allotments.

The final homes at Maida are now close to completion. Bellway is also working on its second phase of homes at Wellesley, Corunna, which will provide a further 227 new homes.

Regional director for Bellway’s South London division Nathan Stevenson said the housebuilder was incredibly proud to see Maida pick up the award.

He said: “We’re just putting the final touches to our Maida development in Aldershot, and winning a Whathouse award is a fantastic way to complete our work at this development. This is a development which will become part of a flagship new community in Aldershot which we are very proud

“A Whathouse award is one of the most prestigious awards in our industry and is something which every housebuilder in the UK strives for, so to get our hands on one for our work here makes all of the hard work worthwhile.

“When we were designing Maida, we wanted to create a development which would provide for a wide range of different buyers, and the diverse neighbourhood which has developed here shows that we have been able to accomplish this. We’ve welcomed first-time buyers, downsizers, growing families to a new home here, and have received healthy interest from investors at Maida as well."
