Worcestershire-based mfg Solicitors has appointed Partner Alex Phillips as departmental head of its agriculture and rural affairs.

Alex’s new position will see her leading a team of 13 specialising in advising farmers, estate owners and landowners on matters including sales, renewables and estate management. Originally joining mfg’s family department as a Paralegal in 2010, Alex qualified in 2013 and was named Young Solicitor of the Year by the Worcestershire Law Society the following year.

In 2017 she was appointed as one of the youngest ever presidents of the Society, becoming a senior associate at mfg in 2020 then a partner in 2021.

She takes over from Iain Morrison a senior partner and vice chairman of the firm, who managed the department for 10 years, having played a major role in starting it up more than 20 years ago.

Iain Morrison said: “Alex has an exceptional reputation amongst her clients, but also in the wider agriculture and rural business community.

“Being appointed to lead the department underlines the commitment she has showcased over the past decade across the firm, but it also highlights her success as a talented and in-demand lawyer who understands complex rural legislation inside out.”

Alex Phillips added: “This is a fantastic opportunity for me. I want to be a really hands on divisional head and work closely with the team.”
