A record number of seven trainee chartered accountants have recently joined the Southampton office of Smith & Williamson, the accountancy, investment management and tax group.

The training contracts give the new trainees hands-on client exposure with a range of industries and business structures immediately after joining. They also benefit from a support structure through a formal mentoring programme while they study for their ICAEW ACA professional qualification. This helps the trainees join in the culture at Smith & Williamson and immediately become part of the firm’s DNA.

Andrew Edmonds, managing partner at the South Coast office, said: “We are delighted to welcome our new trainee intake who join us here at our Southampton office. This is the largest trainee recruitment drive we have made within our Southampton office and they are a crucial part of the future growth and success of the firm. We fully support and invest in their training programme to provide a stimulating environment in which they can gain essential skills, expertise and commercial acumen.

“We also benefit from an injection of new ideas and enthusiasm which is advantageous to the firm as a whole. We hope that they will choose to continue their careers with Smith & Williamson upon qualification and pursue the broad range of exciting opportunities we can offer both here at Southampton and across our offices nationally.”

The new trainees joining the Southampton office are Annalie Muirhead, Hassan Ahmady, Lewis Martin, Peter Harris, Thomas Larminie, Isaac Mills and Matthew Dolbear.

Nine partners and directors are based at the South Coast office of Smith & Williamson, which employs just under 100 people in the Southampton office.
