Accountancy firm Shaw Gibbs has appointed of John Williams as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

John will be responsible for overseeing the Oxford-based firm's financial strategy and operations.

Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant at EY, his career encompasses various senior roles in both private and public companies. Prior to joining Shaw Gibbs, Williams served as CFO for two private equity backed organisations where he led the financial transformation and played a key role in growth, exit and flotation.

In his new role, John will be responsible for driving Shaw Gibbs' financial strategy and ensuring that the firm is in a position to deliver its exciting growth.

He will work closely with the firm's Partners and management team to identify and pursue new growth opportunities, whilst also ensuring that the firm remains financially stable and well-positioned for long-term success.

Peter Davison is deputy editor of The Business Magazine. He has spent his life in journalism – doing work experience in newsrooms in and around Bristol while still at school, and landing his first job on a local newspaper aged 19. By 28 he was the youngest newspaper editor in the country.

An early advocate of online news, he spent the first years of the 2000s telling his bosses that the internet posed both the biggest opportunity and greatest threat to the newspaper industry and the art of journalism. He was right on both counts.

Since 2006 he has enjoyed a career as a freelance journalist. He lives in rural Wiltshire with one wife, two children, and three cats.
