Oxford-based accountancy firm Shaw Gibbs has opened an office in Basingstoke with a team comprised of recruits joining from UK top 10 adviser RSM.

The team, lead by Corporate Tax Partner Tim Smith and Personal Tax Partner Jo Gibbons, has a lot of corporate tax, personal tax, accounts, and outsourcing experience gained through their time operating in Basingstoke and the surrounding areas for a number of years.

Tim Smith said: “I have spent many years in the Hampshire market, most recently as Managing Partner of the RSM Basingstoke office where, as a firm, we operated for over 20 years. We decided to join Shaw Gibbs because we share the same culture, with the understanding of the importance of relationships and the focus on delivering high quality service and advice.

''I am pleased to have been able to find a practice who could see the potential in the team continuing to service clients locally.”

Shaw Gibbs, who received private equity funding in November 2022, have been actively seeking progressive firms who operate in geographical markets with economic opportunity.

The leader of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council Cllr Simon Minas-Bound said: “I am delighted that Tim, Jo and the team have decided to continue to operate in Basing View and have found a supportive partnership with Shaw Gibbs to facilitate this.

''Basingstoke has been ranked as the number one place in the UK for the digital economy and is also recognised as an excellent place for inward investment. These factors, alongside the transportation links and access to a skilled workforce mean that financial and professional services organisations prosper here.”

The new Basingstoke office is one of four with other Shaw Gibbs offices being located in: Oxford, London, and Farnham.
