Approximately 6,000 young people, employers and education providers from across the Midlands attended last week’s Worcestershire Skills Show 2019.

A total of 46 schools and colleges attended the event on Wednesday 13 March, with over 110 of the county’s most exciting businesses and education providers in attendance. The event was divided into six key ‘zones’ that grouped together like-minded businesses from different industry sectors including science, technology, engineering and maths, tourism & leisure, professional services and creative industries.

The Worcestershire Skills Show provided over 5,000 young people with a wide variety of exciting activity-based stands. From augmented reality and virtual reality headsets, to 3D printers and towers built out of marshmallow, the Skills Show once again brought the world of work to life in an interactive way that everyone could enjoy.

Students also had access to the very latest Labour Market Information, in a series of documents which highlight the many careers opportunities available across the county. The documents are just one part of the advice and guidance that are available to young people and parents on the Skills4Worcestershire website www.skills4worcestershire.co.uk

The Skills Show was delivered by the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and Worcestershire County Council, through The Careers & Enterprise Company’s national initiative.

Gary Woodman, Chief Executive for Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “We are so pleased with all of the positive feedback we have had for the Worcestershire Skills Show. I would like to pass on our thanks to all of the businesses and education providers who attended the event. Collectively, we can all take great pride in knowing that the event has likely inspired young people to have the confidence and ambition to achieve any of their goals in life.”

Councillor Ken Pollock, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Economy and Infrastructure said: "The Worcestershire Skills Show is a brilliant opportunity for children and young people to meet with employers from across the county. We've broken last year's record numbers by more than 1,000 young people, which is a great achievement for all involved."
