Wealth management and professional services firm Evelyn Partners has welcomed an 11-strong cohort of new apprentices and graduates to its fast-growing assurance and business services team in Bristol.

Eight recent graduates and three apprentice school leavers have become associates in the ABS team at the firm, which was created from the merger of Tilney and Smith & Williamson.

Evelyn Partners will support the new cohort throughput their training programme to become chartered accountants.

Kelly Jones, partner and head of ABS at Evelyn Partners in Bristol, said: “The current labour market is very tight and many audit teams are under-resourced, but nonetheless we are growing.

“Our new group of graduates and apprentices means that headcount in ABS has risen from 50 to 82 in around two years.

"I believe a key factor behind this is that we can offer a better working culture than many of our competitors, ensuring a high level of staff retention as well as attracting new talent to service our growing client base.”

An early advocate of online news, he spent the first years of the 2000s telling his bosses that the internet posed both the biggest opportunity and greatest threat to the newspaper industry and the art of journalism. He was right on both counts.

Since 2006 he has enjoyed a career as a freelance journalist. He lives in rural Wiltshire with one wife, two children, and three cats.
