Following the huge success of last year’s event, Gloucestershire College is inviting prospective apprentices to its Gloucester Campus on Wednesday 20 March, 5.30pm to 8.00pm to learn about apprenticeships and meet local employers looking to recruit.

Guests at the Apprenticeship Open Evening will get the chance to explore the different types of apprenticeships available through the College, from Level 2 right up to degree level. They will have the opportunity to visit six industry zones, where they can speak directly to the local businesses recruiting apprentices in the coming year and find out about the roles on offer. They can even apply for live vacancies on the night.

The six zones are:

  • Business Services
  • Catering and Hospitality
  • Construction
  • Engineeering
  • Hair
  • Health, Social Care and Early Years

Around 40 businesses are set to attend this year’s event, including engineering company Unilever, Eurolink Connect, Shackleton Wintle & Lane and hospitality venue Cowley Manor. International clothing giant Superdry will also be in attendance alongside Cheltenham based hairdressers Stuart Holmes Salon, and accountancy firm Paish Tooth. Our Apprenticeship Open Evening is an excellent opportunity for potential apprentices to make a great first-impression on these businesses to increase the chances of getting an interview should they go on to apply.

The GC Apprenticeships Team will be on-hand on the night to explain the different levels of apprenticeships and qualifications you can achieve as an apprentice. They can also offer insight into entry requirements, typical wages and the career paths an apprenticeship can lead to.

In addition to this, current apprentices will be sharing their first hand experiences in their roles and answering questions about life as an apprentice too.

Julie Tegg, Director of Employer Training, said: “Last year’s event was a great success with over 500 attendees, and we are very much looking forward to further raising the profile of apprenticeships this year.

Gloucestershire College is extremely proud of our longstanding reputation for being the leading provider of apprenticeships in the county. This has also been reflected on a national level and we are delighted to have recently been shortlisted for ‘Apprenticeship Programme of the Year’ in the 2019 TES (Times Education Supplement) FE Awards . This follows on from our success with the Association of Colleges (AoC) prestigious national Beacon award win for the ‘Promotion and Delivery of Successful Apprenticeships’ in 2017, in which Minister for Apprenticeships Anne Milton travelled from Westminster to Gloucestershire College to present the award.

This year’s Apprenticeship Open evening at GC promises to be even bigger and better than before, with a range of employers looking to hire apprentices. We are encouraging people to secure their place in advance, take full advantage of the opportunity to talk to employers face-to-face and to have all their questions answered by the dedicated GC Apprenticeship team who support prospective apprentices through the application process, and once in post out in their place of work.”

The Apprenticeship Open Evening is free to anyone considering doing an apprenticeship and parents are also welcome to attend. For more information and to book your place, please visit: www.gloscol.ac.uk/campaigns/apprenticeship-open-evening
