Abingdon & Witney College in running for national apprenticeship award

Abingdon & Witney College have been nominated for a prestigious national award for their apprenticeship programme, it's been announced today.

The Annual Apprenticeship Conference (AAC) Apprenticeship Awards, organised by FE Week and the Association of Education and Learning Providers (AELP), is now in its second year after a successful inaugural event in 2018.

This year, more than 350 entries were submitted from colleges, training providers and employers across 20 award categories. The College has been shortlisted for Apprentice Provider of the Year, along with Walsall-based In-Comm Training and Gen2, who operate in the Cumbria area.

It's the second year running that the College has been shortlisted for the award, having also won Regional Provider of the Year for the South of England last year.

This followed a recent 'Outstanding’ grading from Ofsted and two successive provider awards at the Oxfordshire Apprenticeship Awards.

The College specialises in apprenticeships tailored on an individual basis, focusing on placing the right apprentices with the right employer, and providing a high level of pastoral support during training.

Jacqui Canton, Deputy Principal at the College, said: “We are delighted to be once again nominated for the national Apprentice Provider award. It recognises the passion of our apprenticeship team for matching local and national employers with highly motivated apprentices, driven by excellent teaching and support, that consistently puts our timely achievement rates significantly above the national average.”

Winners of all awards will be announced at a glittering ceremony during the Annual Apprenticeship Conference Gala Dinner on March 28 at the ICC in Birmingham.

Those shortlisted have also be invited to attend a special reception at the Houses of Parliament, hosted by Commons education select committee chair Rt Hon Robert Halfon MP on Monday 4 March.
