Reading Metropolitan project wins Council approval after four years
The Reading Metropolitan housing development in central Reading has won planning approval.
The local council voted to back the planned 620 mixed size housing project on Thursday. The project will see a change to the Reading skyline with the addition of a 24 storey high tower. In total the plans outline construction of seven tower blocks and a number of townhouses.
The submission lists 620 residential units, 72 studio, 196 one bed, 320 two bedroom and 32 three bedroom properties, office accommodation, flexible ground floor space, a community centre, health centre uses and 94 car parking spaces.
The flats will include 98 affordable homes among its studios.
Initially the plan was to build 648 homes but this was scaled back after criticism.
A number of objections from resident groups centred on the scale of the development. Council have been debating the plans for almost five years before voting to give them the green light.
The developer Hermes has said they will continue to work closely with residents and council.
