It is not the first time Glassdoor has championed Southern employers. In a previous poll naming the best 25 cities for jobs in the UK, the South featured prominently on the list, Slough was named number one, followed by Cambridge, Gloucester, Guildford and Reading.

Servicenow with its UK headquarters in Staines, Surrey was named number one in the Employer’s Choice Awards. The latest list saw London named the UK's best city for job satisfaction, with Brighton, Bristol and Oxford close behind.

Glassdoor, gathered more than 300,000 reviews posted between January 2021 and February 2022. The completed data analysis gave London an average job satisfaction rating of 3.92 out of 5. The national average score was 3.82.

Brighton, Bristol and Oxford all scored an average job satisfaction rating of 3.89.
Brighton was number one in terms of diversity and inclusion with a rating of 4.01 out of 5. London and Bristol followed on 3.95 and 3.93 respectively.

Brighton also scored the highest rating for work-life balance, 3.74.

Glassdoor's Lauren Thomas said: “Companies across the country are working hard to ensure employees feel part of a diverse and inclusive workplace culture that offers a sense of belonging, but there is still room for improvement across pay, senior leadership and career opportunities.

"Job seekers want flexibility, community - and good parking! Focusing on employee engagement can help create better workplace culture, reduce staff turnover, increase productivity and provide greater job satisfaction."
