Spinlock is the first UK Isle of Wight company and the first in the UK marine industry to sign up to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s global commitment to eradicate plastic waste and pollution at source.

The New Plastics Economy Global Commitment, led by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation in collaboration with UN Environment, was launched at the Our Ocean Conference in Bali in October.

Businesses that sign up to the commitment will publish annual data on their progress to help drive momentum and ensure transparency.

“Spinlock is a global leader in the design and manufacture of innovative marine products, so it was important for us to lead from the front in terms of the use, re-use and recycling of plastics,” CEO Chris Hill said.

“We are proud to support this initiative and stand shoulder to shoulder with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation in a bid to reduce our use of single-use plastics. The first step for us is to evaluate how, when and where we use plastics within our manufacturing and distribution processes and identify areas where we can introduce more sustainable alternatives. We are excited about this opportunity and look forward to doing our bit to establishing a circular economy for plastics.”

Spinlock's head office and production sites have been based in Cowes on the Isle of Wight since 1976. It exports to over 25 countries and is the proud recipient of two Queen's Awards: International Trade and Innovation.
