Bicester’s Polestar to introduce first car without a rear window to Britain

The Polestar 4 has arrived with an innovative new feature – the traditional rear window has been replaced by a high-definition video feed between the front and back seats.

EV manufacturer Polestar opened its new UK HQ at Bicester Heritage towards the end of 2022 and has since been hard at work on its latest model, which it claims is safer for SUV drivers and their fellow motorists.

“The visibility out the back of many cars is pretty constrained,” said Jonathan Goodman, head of Polestar UK.

“And then the second you have a large passenger in the back or any luggage, you can’t see anything out of it at all.

“Given the move forward in technology, if you place a camera there you’ve got a far better field of vision as the driver.”

The camera is fitted on the roof of the vehicle and is apparently particularly effective at night, when usually drivers are forced to contend with glare from the car behind.

But the screen can still be deactivated and turned into a regular mirror, allowing the driver to see into the back of the car.

The Polestar 4 will launch in the UK this August, with prices starting at £59,990.
