One hundred and eighty-seven Michelin-Starred Restaurants are featured for 2020, including one new Three Star, four new Two Stars and 23 new One Stars.
“Despite the obvious challenges being faced by the industry here in the UK, we are thrilled that this has been such a stellar year, and we have seen many first ventures opening and rapidly rising to success,” says Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin guides.
Three restaurants have been promoted from One to Two Stars: La Dame de Pic in the City of London (Anne-Sophie Pic); The Dining Room at Whatley Manor in Malmesbury (Niall Keating); and The Greenhouse in Dublin (Mikael Viljanen).
Executive Chef Niall Keating and his team at Wiltshire based, Whatley Manor have been awarded a coveted second Michelin star, just two years after earning the first star.
“This is the dream. My team are so special to me – and I am proud that together we have achieved this second star,” exclaimed Niall Keating. “They work so hard to support me and help create a great customer experience at Whatley Manor.” The Dining Room at Whatley Manor features Niall’s modern menus which showcase many international influences. His background training took him from Sat Bains in Nottingham to Benu in San Francisco, then to Kong Hans Kaelder in Copenhagen – all prestigious Michelin- starred establishments.
Sue Williams, General Manager at Whatley Manor, followed Niall’s career progress over the years, and lured him to Whatley Manor in 2017. Her instincts and nurturing have seen Niall and the food culture at Whatley Manor evolve month-by-month into one of the country’s most compelling, popular and successful establishments. “We respect the fact that Michelin always set the bar so high – it continuously gives us something as a team to strive for. What a momentous moment this is for Niall and everyone at Whatley Manor!,” enthused Sue Williams.
Whatley Manor joins Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons in Oxfordshire as being one of just 19 Two Star Michelin-Starred Restaurants in the UK.
