The Bridge, a new bistro, bakery and farm shop, has opened at Charfield Gardens, a new neighbourhood being created in Charfield near Wotton-under-Edge.

Set up by local residents and husband and wife duo, Paul and Katie Nicholls, who have a strong background in hospitality and catering, The Bridge serves fresh bread, cakes and croissants daily, as well as offering a wide array of mostly organic groceries and other essentials from its farm shop.

The bistro area offers breakfast, lunch and dinner from 8am to 8pm daily, with Sunday roast specials and afternoon tea also on the menu. Whether you're after a full English breakfast or an eggs benedict, fish and chips, a filet steak or a toasted sandwich, The Bridge will provide something for everyone.  There will also be gluten-free and vegan options available. All the meat served in the bistro is organic and locally sourced.

Barratt Homes' Charfield Gardens in South Gloucestershire will be made up of 115 two, three and four-bedroom homes, including 42 affordable homes, with substantial public open space and its own allotments and orchard.

Paul Nicholls, who owns The Bridge alongside his wife Katie Nicholls, said: "We are thrilled to be launching The Bridge at an exciting time for Charfield's growing community. We can't wait to welcome people to our friendly, welcoming bistro, bakery and farm shop, which offers something for all tastes. We have a brilliant team of chefs who will be cooking up a storm for the local community, as well as an excellent range of local suppliers who we'll be sourcing our produce from as much as possible."

Andrea Pilgrim, sales director at Barratt Homes' Bristol division which covers the wider South West area, added: "A huge welcome to Paul, Katie and the team at The Bridge. We are delighted that this wonderful bistro, bakery and farm shop has opened at Charfield Gardens, bringing something special and unique to this new development and paving the way for the creation of a real sense of community. New residents of Charfield Gardens will be able to benefit from all the amazing local produce and culinary delights offered by The Bridge, on top of being surrounded by seven acres of open space and located just 3 miles from the charming market town of Wotton-under-Edge too."

Barratt Homes has donated £1,000 to the Wotton, Charfield and Kingswood Greenway Group which is working to create a new walking and cycling path connecting these local communities.

A range of special ecological measures to support local wildlife are also being implemented at Charfield Gardens including a newt pond, bat boxes and bat tubes, swift and house sparrow boxes. Some of these wildlife homes are being attached to trees around the new community and others are integrated into the bricks of the new homes.

As well as the new allotment and orchard, other shared outdoor facilities include a new play area and a trim trail connecting to local countryside walks.

Barratt Homes is contributing over £885,000 in community benefits through section 106 contributions, as well as additional support for local organisations over and above the planning requirements, including £6,000 towards Charfield Village Hall.
