Everyman Media Group has acquired two cinemas, one in Bath and one in Cheltenham, following the former owner, Empire, entering administration.

Finances for the deal are as of yet undisclosed.

Everyman's purchase comes at a challenging time for Britain's cinema sector, which is still struggling after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Despite the challenges, Everyman has forecasted a much stronger second-half performance due to a number of large box office films including Napoleon by Ridley Scott, Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon, and the new Wonka film.

Chief Executive of Everyman, Alex Scrimgeour, said: "We are delighted to announce the acquisition of these cinemas in the historic city of Bath and the vibrant town of Cheltenham.

''We pride ourselves on providing an elevated cinema experience, making these venues a terrific addition to the Everyman portfolio.

''We look forward to welcoming the local community to our newest locations in this exciting new chapter for the business.”
