Smart Works Reading, the charity which helps women across Berkshire get a job, has launched a new fund to raise £40,000 and help double the number get back into employment.

Since opening in 2015, Smart Works Reading has helped over 1,800 women across Berkshire ahead of interviews by providing clothing, coaching and confidence.

It says its latest 'Women Into Work Fund' launch comes at a critical time because women have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic and the cost of living crisis. It hopes the fund will help the charity support at least 750 women in 2024.

"Unemployment takes an enormous emotional and economic toll," said Smart Works Reading Chair Helen Francis.

"Work transforms lives, and we see that first-hand as women regain their confidence through our service. The Women Into Work Fund will empower us to support more women than ever on their journey back to employment."

The fund will expand the charity's capacity to provide its one-to-one interview preparation and dressing services and to kick-start it, Smart Works Reading is taking part in 'The Big Give's Women and Girls Campaign', which will match fund donations made through its platform between October 11 to 18.

In addition to individual donations, Smart Works Reading is also looking for local businesses to back the fund.

This can be via a charity partnership or a donation in return for a volunteer day at Smart Works Reading’s centre

Francis added: "Your gift to the Women Into Work Fund is an investment in the futures of women in need across Reading and Berkshire.

"We encourage everyone to act urgently by donating via The Big Give from 11th – 18th October. Together, we can transform a woman’s life."
