Top Ten UK locations for solar panels are all in the South
The top ten locations in the UK to install solar panels, based on the potential to save money, are all in the South of England.
This is according to data recently released by energy expert MakeMyHouseGreen.com which, using smart data, calculates the savings from green technology.
Looking into the money saving potential of solar panels across the UK, it found that households can save up to £300 per year more depending on their location.
This means that an averaged sized house with 12 south facing panels and a 3.55kWh battery in Brighton, at the top of the list, could save up to £1254, whereas that same house in Inverness could expect savings of only £949.
Closely following Brighton is Dorchester in Dorset, with potential savings of £1252. Also in Dorset, Bournemouth comes fourth in the research, with savings of £1236.
In news sure to be celebrated there, Portsmouth, in third with £1246, beats out Southampton, which sits seventh on £1226. Canterbury in Kent takes sixth with £1231.
Also in the top ten are Plymouth (fifth, £1234), Colchester (eighth, £1224) Southall (ninth, £1222) and Ipswich (tenth, £1219).

Llewellyn Kinch, co-founder of MakeMyHouseGreen and UK energy auto-switching service Switchd, said: “MakeMyHouseGreen considers geographical differences in average money saving potential by looking at detailed solar data and comprehensive tariff information.
“It’s no surprise that different parts of the UK see different amounts of sunshine, but it might not be as well known that they’re also charged differently for the same tariff.
“That’s why the same house with the same usage and solar panel system can have different money savings depending on its location.
“There are a lot of factors to consider other than geographical differences. Such as how much electricity a household uses and when, the pitch and orientation of their roof, and the size of their solar panel system. We consider all of these factors and more, free of charge.”
