South East Water to launch 25 year environment plan

Drinking water supplier South East Water is launching an industry first with the commencement of the company’s 25 year plan for the environment, aiming to future-proof water resources.
The launch event will take place in East Sussex on June 15 and will be an informative experience for visitors.
This 25 year plan is in alignment with the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs' 25 year environment plan and will aim to keep rivers and underground water sources healthy. South East Water also plans to protect and enhance the natural environment whilst adapting it to the changing climate.

South East Water currently sources, treats, and pumps over 530 million litres of water per day to a customer base of over 2.3 million people.
Over the last two years, the water company has worked with 200 customers, employees and stakeholders to shape the environment plan. The plan was also subject to feedback from over 600,000 people in a public consultation.
Emma Goddard, Head of Environment at South East Water, said: “People have such busy lives they often don’t think about drinking water. They turn the tap on and it’s there.
“But water and the environment are intrinsically linked and we recognise an important part of this is making sure we consider the environmental impact of our operations.
“For us, it's about more than just continuing to supply water – we care deeply about the environment and want to protect and enhance it for future generations.
“We know making lasting change to the environment takes time and no single organisation can do this alone. That’s why we’re the first UK water company to create a 25 Year Plan to protect and enhance this important and essential asset and we have been working with others to co-create this plan from the start.”
