RSM Reading seeks stem cell donors for boxing star

Reading accountancy firm RSM has called for people between the ages of 18 and 30 to visit its offices on Thursday 23 March and register as potential donors for 18-year-old local boxing star Reuben Muston.

The event supports the firm’s national charity partner Anthony Nolan, which matches people suffering from blood cancer and blood disorders with stem cell donors.

Reuben was diagnosed with aplastic anaemia after suffering a nose bleed in the ring. The condition prevents bone marrow and stem cells from producing enough blood cells, and without treatment can raise the risk of complications such as leukaemia, irregular heartbeat, and heart failure.

Currently, Reuben visits the hospital two to three times a week for tests and blood transfusions, but only a stem cell transplant can provide long-term treatment. Since neither of his sisters are a perfect match, Reuben is now searching for a donor.

Mike Sables, Office Managing Partner at RSM Reading, said: “This is a devastating case so we want to do as much as we can to help encourage potential donors to get involved.

“Anthony Nolan is a brilliant charity and the work they do is to be admired as they make a huge difference in giving people another chance in life – so we jumped at the opportunity to be able to support their efforts.”

Fit and healthy individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 are encouraged to visit RSM’s Reading offices at Davidson House, Forbury Square from 11:30am–2:00pm on 23 March, where they can register to donate.
