Portsmouth’s Lakeside North Harbour plants 15 new trees

Businesses at the Lakeside North Harbour campus in Portsmouth have partnered with The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) to plant 15 new trees.

Supporting the initiative were BTS, Eco Drift, Checkatrade, Fair Ways, Go Car Credit, Handelsbanken, Kinto, Lambert Smith Hampton, and Vail Williams.

The Pyrus Chanticleer ornamental pear trees were sustainably sourced from a supplier in Romsey, and produce blush and white flowers between Spring and Summer. They will provide pollen for the resident bees at Lakeside, as its 130-acre campus is home to 10 hives.

The QGC, founded by the late Queen Elizabeth, previously collaborated with Lakeside North Harbour in April 2022 to plant 10 trees for the Platinum Jubilee. Businesses in support of the initiative this year also repeated last year’s donation of more than £500 to The Woodland Trust.

Asset Manager Simon Bateman said: “We at Lakeside were deeply saddened by the news of the Queen’s passing in September of last year, yet it is wonderful to see that King Charles is continuing the work of the Queen’s Green Canopy.

“Lakeside North Harbour is in a perfect position to support environmental work, including that of the QGC and The Woodland Trust, and we will continue exploring how we can improve and nurture the biodiversity across our site over the coming years.”
